Fine dining in Riyadh: Where should you eat?

Fine dining in Riyadh: Where should you eat?

Since 2020, Michelin-starred restaurants have been opening their doors in Riyadh; along with international fine-dining brands including Hakkasan, La Petite Maison, and Mamo. At the same time, local restaurant concepts are also on the rise — serving an irresistible blend of traditional Saudi Arabian flavours and modern tastes.

Here’s our pick of four fine dining restaurants to try when you want to sit down, relax, and enjoy delicious cuisine with world-class hospitality.

1. Myazu (Sulaimaniya District)

If you want high-end Japanese food, this is the spot for you. A homegrown Saudi Arabian restaurant brand, Myazu has been recognised as one of the best restaurants in the country – and named as one of the 50 best restaurants in the MENA region for two years running.

The setting is peaceful and calming, conceptualised by Japanese designer Noriyoshi Muramatsu. The lighting in particular transports you into a state of zen – you can spend hours here, and leave feeling renewed.

You can take dishes directly from the sushi counter or grill, or choose from a tasting menu. It’s hard to choose a favourite, because every dish is delicious – but the red snapper infused with yuzu is very popular.

If you just want to stay at your hotel or apartment and rest in your own space, Myazu also offers a butler service – they’ll bring the Japanese fine-dining experience to you.

2. Takya (Al Bujairi)

Are you keen to try Saudi Arabian comfort food – with a fine-dining twist? Takya offers exactly that – fusing authentic local cuisine with a contemporary edge.

On their own website, Takya writes: “To create Takya, we searched every region of Saudi Arabia to find its own unique style of cooking.”

And those distinct regional styles are presented with flair; with dishes including Jareesh, Sleeg, and Kabsah – plus international additions (think slow-cooked lamb, modern desserts, and mocktails) that are infused with Saudi Arabian spices and ingredients.

You’ll be invited in warmly to relax, settle into the country’s culture, and enjoy dishes you’ve never experienced before.

3. Al Orjouan (Al Hada)

Located in the Ritz-Carlton, Al Orjouan offers an all-day dining buffet full of international Mediterranean and Middle Eastern favourites.

You’ll eat with a diverse crowd of diners in a spacious, grand setting – and the desserts are particularly special.

The extensive menu has something for everyone, and the restaurant has a reputation for excellent service. Come here for a no-stress meal you can be confident you love.

4. Maiz (Al Bujairi)

A Riyadh-native brand, Maiz claims to be the world’s first authentic Saudi Arabian restaurant – and it’s dedicated to celebrating the culture and cuisine of this country.

You can try caviar farmed locally in Dammam, served with masabeeb pancakes; exquisitely spiced soups; and main courses including Lamb Kharoof (slow-cooked, with smoked rice) and Najdi Jareesh.

The restaurant is luxuriously designed, wrapping you up in the Maiz world so you can forget your to-do list and focus on the dining experience. And much of the produce is locally sourced; including camel from Al-Kharj and shrimp from the Arabian Gulf.
