Two Saudi Arabia startups driving innovation in the food delivery space

We want to talk about F&B startups. Or more specifically, we want to talk about two food startups in Saudi Arabia that are taking the food delivery market by storm.

They’re leading the way in business growth and F&B innovation, and creating fresh opportunities for their partners – as well as for their customers.

Jahez is an online food delivery platform that connects restaurants with delivery partners and customers

Founded in 2016, Jahez operates a food ordering and delivery platform that makes it easy for customers to order restaurant food directly to their doors – using delivery partners via a mobile app and website.

In just a few years, Jahez has grown to become one of the largest food delivery platforms in Saudi Arabia. It serves more than 54 cities across the Kingdom, with a mission to provide a seamless user experience for restaurants, diners, and delivery partners alike; and with commitment to continuous tech innovation in the food delivery segment.

The average delivery time on the platform is about 30 minutes, and features include live order tracking, a range of payment options, and a large (and growing) selection of partner restaurants for customers to choose from. It’s really use-friendly – the platform’s UX design has been carefully executed across devices.

As of 2024, Jahez serves over 1 million active customers, leveraging a delivery fleet of more than 45,000 partners across the country. And the company is exploring new growth opportunities both in Saudi Arabia and in other countries in the Gulf region.

Hungerstation was among the first online food ordering platforms in Saudi Arabia

Founded four years earlier in 2012, Hungerstation is a pioneer in the food delivery sector here – first established in Dammam, the capital of the Eastern province of Saudi Arabia.

Now, it’s one of the largest food delivery platforms in the region, serving thousands of restaurants and many more thousands of customers in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.

With 55,000 partner restaurants and stores covering 102 cities in Saudi Arabia, Hungerstation doesn’t just deliver restaurant meals – it also connects customers with groceries, pharmacy products, flowers, and more; all delivered to their doors.

Like Jahez, the platform offers live order tracking, multiple payment options, and an easy-to-navigate UX on its mobile app and website. And to drive adoption, it offers perks including unlimited free delivery for a year on over 25,000 restaurants when a new user signs up.

The app offers multi-language support (including Arabic and English), and the option to schedule orders for another time – so you can plan ahead and minimise your to-do list.

In 2024, Hungerstation also has more than 1 million active customers, and its delivery fleet includes more than 45,000 partners. Potential regional expansion is on the horizon, along with continued growth in Saudi Arabia.

These two startups reflect Saudi Arabia’s thriving market, and a demand for innovation and convenience

Saudi Arabia’s focus on economic diversification, along with regulatory support for F&B startups, is helping to create success stories like these. And the popularity of these food delivery platforms among Saudi Arabian residents highlights a shift in consumer preference – towards high quality food available through convenient channels.

They’re providing restaurants with access to a broader customer base; creating economic opportunities for delivery partners and employees; and giving consumers what they want.
